Staff Consultation: The Strategist provides on-site technical assistance to aid school/parish staff in developing andimplementing assistive technology programs for students with disabilities. Consultations are frequently provided to assist service providers in considering assistive technology, in developing assistive technology plans, and in monitoring student progress. Consultations are required prior to evaluation.
Student Observation: The Strategist is available to conduct a functional student observation in their natural environment. This would occur in conjunction with staff consultation.
Student Evaluation: The Strategist is available to collaborate with district staff in an assistive technology evaluation when the student’s needs cannot be identified through consultation. Following an evaluation the Strategist will assist the local service provider in developing an action plan.
Classroom Consultation: Frequently, the Strategist is asked to provide assistance for several students in a classroom. This allows the Strategist to address general classroom assistive technology needs without focusing exclusively on one student’s technology needs.
Device Technical Support: The Strategist often provides on-site technical assistance to aid school/parish staff in addressing technical difficulties with assistive technology devices, hardware, and software. This includes installing and customizing assistive technology solutions.
Professional Development: The Strategist provides a range of professional development inservices/workshops/trainings each year. These activities are conducted to address specific assistive technology topics. Customized professional development is available through the Strategist upon parish request. These opportunities address issues that are specifically identified by the school/ parish staff and are conducted in a location in the school system. You can customize a workshop to meet your specific needs.
Short-term Equipment Loans: The Strategist maintains an inventory of assistive technology devices and hardware that is available for short-term loan to students in local schools. The typical length of a loan period is four (4) weeks. These timelines may be extended per parish and Project Director agreement. Please note that software applications are available through this program but due to copyright laws, the teacher will be required to sign a software agreement.
